Waldo the Beaver
Late spring rains washed Waldo away from his lodge into the
heart of downtown Lincoln. A tiny baby, Waldo was found on
the bank of Dry Creek and sent to Wild Things, where he was
raised by the staff in hopes of someday releasing him back
into the wild. Will Waldo one day build a beaver dam and lodge
all of his own? |

Ozzie the African Vervet Monkey
Ozzie's story begins in Africa where in 1989, he was stolen
from his mother by an American on Safari. He was hidden in
a suitcase and flown to the US where customs agents discovered
him. He was taken to the LA Zoo where keepers raised him to
be introduced with the rest of the Vervet Monkey troop. He
did not socialize well with the troop and was sent to Moorpark
College Teaching Zoo. Several years later, when Wild Things
was just starting, Ozzie was sent to us and is one of the
most beloved and well-known animals at our center. |

Maidu the Mountain Lion (Cougar, Puma)
Maidu came to Wild Things as a two year old after being discovered
in a garage in Placerville, CA. She had not wandered in from
the surrounding hillside, as you may think, but was being
kept in a 6 x 6 cage as an illegal pet. She became an ambassador
for her species, opening up the discussion of safely living
along side these magnificent cats. The Mountain Lion issue
in California remains a very hot topic with their population
on the increase and it is important to keep the conversations
flowing and the public educated on the last large predator
in California. |
